Spanish Colonial Eclectic Design

An old colonial home with a refined taste and a hint of nonchalant vintage charm. Blending old rustic patina doors and fresh clean lines, a mix of antique and modern, results in an exceptional curated home that is stunningly eclectic and beautiful.

Renovating an old Spanish 19020s home completely inside out, yet preserving every original detail such that the character of the home stays unchanged was my husband’s dream. Updating the kitchen and the bathrooms and all the wiring and plumbing but keeping the original hard wood floors and making it functional to our needs is a challenge that my husband took on. We opened the spaces, knocking down walls that were not needed, making the living room the focus of the house. Adding texture and stucco and several coats of finishes took almost a year to get the look we were after. The arched doorways were accented with old Indian arches and a beautiful entryway, we placed two antique columns with stone bases giving a grand old world look. 200 years old Indian gates were used as garden gates, their arched shape and fantastic medieval design played against the rustic look of the house. We kept the tiles all original, along with the arches that are the highlight of Spanish architecture. The doors had to be replaced so we ordered custom door panels from India with beautiful carvings, each bedroom had a unique opening giving the house a stunning statement of design. The headboard in the bedroom was created with old Indian doors and the carved nightstands with hints of color gave the perfect element of eclectic design.

The rustic armoires in the kitchen sit amicably alongside the Spanish styled architecture, all set against eggshell white walls. A huge dining table, custom made from old doors gives the farmhouse rustic eclectic ambiance perfect for family dinners. Natural light plays with the old wood patinas through the large, open windows and archways, flooding almost every room with its energy. The vintage rustic style coffee tables and oxcart benches complement the fresh modern steel appliances and bring a clean feel into the space.

In the entry way with its old brick tiles sits a damchiya, an old Indian colorful chest with mirrors welcoming guests with its energy. A bouquet of dried florals sits atop the chest, and beside it is a huge floor mirror made from an old arch. The carved floral and paisley design accents blend perfectly with Spanish eclectic style. The charm of a restored Spanish home from the 20’s and decorated with vintage furniture and architecture is the gift that my husband gave us!!
